The Artistry of Impactful Giving

Matthew Pavone is a representational artist who creates stylized depictions of objects and images that possess  autobiographical significance from his past. His artistic expression is heavily influenced by street art and counter culture of New York City and Montreal in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pavone works across various mediums with a range of color selections  and frequently incorporates the use of hand-cut wooden stamp blocks to facilitate color transfer.  Pavone’s approach to creative development combines different artistic processes and many of his works show a combination of stylized drawing, painting and print making.  He is entirely self taught and spends his off-peak hours in his studio developing various project areas.

One project area that Pavone invests significant time into is the development of a substantial body of work: Flag Series.  As of 2020, the total number of unique, completed works in this series stands at 37.  Through Flag Series, Pavone works to depict the imagery of the American flag in various regards to showcase the different interpretations of the flag as a familiar objects. His use of color and patterning encourages the viewer to look beyond traditional standards and measures normally associated with the American flag. Pavone applies this same philosophy elsewhere in his artwork to challenge the status quo and meaning of common objects relative to the viewer by depicting the objects through alternative stylized interpretations.

Pavone’s Flag Series has gained wide spread recognition from various organizations.  His works are collected privately and some selections from his flag series are housed in the private collections of various government agencies. The organizations that Pavone has worked with to help fundraise and drive awareness include, American Cancer Society, American Cherry Blossom Festival, American Veterans Center, Artists in Middleburg, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and UNICEF.
